Poster Presentation at UNC-Chapel Hill
Today, our entire program packed up and drove to UNC Chapel Hill for a joint poster presentation with their comuputational physics REU program. Everyone’s poster looked amazing, though we had a bit of a shortage of poster presentation materials. While all of URCA’s posters centered on astrophysics, the UNC posters ranged from astrophysics to particle physics to biophysics.
From about 12 pm to 3 pm, we all stood by our posters and talked to anyone who wanted to hear about it. It was the first time I had made this sort of presentation, but it wasn’t as hard as I expected, and I actually had a lot of fun talking to UNC professors and grad students.
At the end, the judges gave out prizes, and I got first place! I won a cool little paperweight that is made out of the glass from the SOAR Telescope. SOAR stands for Southern Astrophysical Research Telescope, and it’s a telescope in Chile, operated by UNC-Chapel Hill, Michigan State University, the countries of Brazil and Chile, and more.
Finally, the two REU groups all went to Frankies to let off some steam. We played laser tag and rode go carts.
